Ubuntu’s virtualization hardware enablement (HWE) stack: a new model for confidential computing enablement

Ijlal Loutfi tells us that “Confidential computing is moving quickly” with some examples showing us where and how. Ijlal also tells us that all support doesn’t appear at once, and whilst the hardware enablement stack (HWE) dealt with part of this, it didn’t cover the whole software stack. We’re then introduced to the virtualization HWE stack that came with Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, and told how it extends what prior HWE releases provided, into a more “rolling model”. We’re also told how this change will impact other users with an ‘opt in’ model.

GNOME 50.3 Enables Remote Desktop Hardware Acceleration for AMD GPUs

Marcus Nestor tells us about the third maintenance update of GNOME 50: GNOME 50.3. We’re told it includes improved animation, hardware acceleration in remote desktop sessions, and more. We’re also told it fixes memory leaks and other reported issues, and that it includes an updated GVfs (1.60.1).
